作曲者があのバッハと並ぶ「ヘンデル」となっていますが、正確に言うと、ヘンデルがこの曲「ジョイ・トゥ・ザ・ワールド（ Joy To The World ）のためにメロディーを作曲したわけではありません。

この曲「ジョイ・トゥ・ザ・ワールド（ Joy To The World ）のメロディーの断片の多くが、ヘンデル作曲のオラトリオ「メサイア（Messiah）」の中の「Comfort ye」や「Lift up your heads」などで使われているメロディーから取られているので「ヘンデル作曲」、とされているんですね。

この日本語版の「もろびとこぞりて」の歌詞は、イギリス人の神学者Philip Doddridge（フィリップ・ドドリッジ）という人が書いた「Hark! the Glad Sound, the Saviour Comes（聞け！喜びの音、救い主が来る）」という讃美歌の歌詞が元になっているのです。

で、さらにその「Hark! the Glad Sound, the Saviour Comes（聞け！喜びの音、救い主が来る）」という英語の原詞と、日本語版の「もろびとこぞりて」の歌詞を逐語的に比べながら読んでみると、日本語版「もろびとこぞりて」の歌詞はどうも英語の原詞を簡単に要約、簡略化したような歌詞になっていて、「主は来ませり」の繰り返し部分も見当たらないので、それほど厳密に和訳しているわけでもなさそうなのですね。
